Ballroom Blitz was opened in March 1994, by its Principal, Miss Debbie Mitchell, an Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) qualified teacher. Debbie has been dancing since the age of three, turning professional in 1989, and has since continued to expand her own dancing knowledge and experience, becoming the youngest member of the Disco/Freestyle/Rock’n’Roll Faculty of the ISTD in 1999. She is also a Member of the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA).
Debbie is qualified to Fellowship level with the ISTD & IDTA, with qualifications in Ballroom, Latin American, Old Time, Disco/Freestyle, Rock’n’Roll and Country & Western. For her Masters degree Debbie undertook an extensive amount of research into the role of Dance in Education and has worked closely with the Examination Boards to develop new government approved dance qualification.
